The Management of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has called on Landlords and Caretakers of hostels outside Campus to engage private security personnel individually or as groups, to ensure security of lives and properties of their Tenants, who are mostly students of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako made the call when he led the University Management and Students Union Executives on a concern visit to the two Hostels outside the campus that was visited by armed robbers earlier in the week.
The Vice Chancellor who thanked the Almighty that no casualty was recorded during the incidence however noted with dismay that no security measure was provided by the Landlords of the affected Hostels to protect the lives and properties of the students therein.
Professor Salako therefore urged Landlords of the host communities including Harmony Estate,Oluwo,Accord Estate,Isolu and Zoo to as a matter of urgency leverage on the University's intervention by employing security personnel to secure their Hostels for the students living therein.
The Vice Chancellor noted that though it is not the responsibility of the University to provide security for off Campus Hostels,however his Administration has effectively intervened by facilitating a Police Division headed by DPO and full scale surveillance for the host communities.
Professor Salako described as baseless and mischievous an online media report that armed robbers invaded the university.
He stated that his visit to the robbery scene which took place in hostels at Accord area off campus has exposed the online report as spurious and ill-informed.
Professor Salako reiterated Management's commitment to the security of her students within the jurisdiction of the University.
The Vice Chancellor commended and thanked security agencies and Community Development Associations in the host communities for their support and cooperation with the university in boosting security of lives and properties.
