Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has promised an improved welfare for Officers and provision of necessary equipment for the Ogun State Traffic and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), to enhance their performance.

Governor Abiodun stated this during the 2019 Budget Treasury Board meeting, held at Oba’s Complex Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying it was imperative to equip the agency with necessary tools to make them more efficient in the discharged of their duties and thereby reduce road accidents to the barest minimum.

The Governor, represented by his deputy, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele, while appreciating the efforts of TRACE Officers for prompt response to traffic issues in the State, urged them to be alive to the responsibility of saving lives and property, condoling with families of officers who lost their lives in line of duties.

Earlier in his submission, the Corps-Commander and Chief Executive Officer, Commander Olaseni Ogunyemi, appealed to the Governor to recruit more Officers to complement the existing workforce, appreciating government’s efforts on palliatives to the deplorable condition of roads in the State.

Ogunyemi said the Corps had increased safety consciousness of road ethics by educating motorists and other road users through various public enlightenment programmes on radio and television, such as; TRACE Half Hour and Awaye-Oko, to achieve accident free society.

He stressed that capacity building of Officers was on regular basis, in order to educate them on the ethics of the profession and to reduce road accidents, to attain the United Nation’s Decade standard Action for road safety, highlighting some challenges faced by TRACE to include; shortage of staff, lack of operational vehicles and staff insurance policy, among others.
