Taskforce on Reopening of Worship Centers in Ogun State has charged religious and community leaders to adhere strictly to laid down guidelines for the reopening of worship centers, as well as enlighten their followers on Covid-19 protocols, in order to stem community transmission.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, who is also the Chairman of the Taskforce, gave this charge during assessment visits to worship centers in the Yewa axis of the State, saying there was need for religious leaders to constantly share credible information that would enable their members make right decisions towards protecting them and their loved ones from being infected by the virus.

‘’We want to ensure strict monitoring of people coming in and out of worship centers via dedicated entrances for such, while providing safety check equipment such as thermometers, hand washing buckets and hand sanitizers.

‘’Use of face masks, compliance with at least 1.5m physical distancing in sitting arrangements, among many other guidelines should be adhered. We therefore urge our religious leaders to cascade the prescribed protocols to other smaller churches around", she said.

In his contribution, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPL. Tunji Odunlami, advised the leadership of Ilaro Central Mosque to reconsider the use of the uncompleted mosque for prayers to avert disaster.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Abiodun Abudu-Balogun, urged the leadership of religious centers to ensure decontamination of worship premises before and after each service, while recommending the use of a disinfectant chamber for large gatherings.

Responding, the Secretary, League of Imam and Alfas, Ogun State, Alhaji Tajudeen Adewunmi, described the visit as apt, hinting that banners and other information materials had already being placed at designated points, while a sickbay had also been put in place for any unforeseen circumstances, among other measures.

Some of the worship centers visited were the Headquarters of Living Faith Worldwide, Ota, as well as Cathedral of Christ Church, Ilaro
