The State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, said two others were receiving treatments in the hospital.
It was gathered that a traditional ruler had invited Policemen to the area to enforce a court judgement which Ikogbo reportedly won against an adjoining community, Imose, over a land.
Sources said police were in the area to take possession by sealing houses on the land in dispute.
It was learnt that an attempt to resist the Policemen by some suspected land grabbers led to sporadic gunshots by the Police.
But, the police spokesman, Oyeyemi, said the Police were invited to make peace in the community.
While confirming that two persons died as a result of stray bullets, Oyeyemi disclosed that the suspected land grabbers, whom he also described as cultists had invaded the police station in the area, vandalising same.
According to him, the said land grabbers met a policeman and attempted to snatch a gun from him.
Consequent upon this, he revealed that they mistakenly touched the trigger and the bullets hit four persons.
Oyeyemi said the Police command had on September 20, received a petition from the Onikogbo of Ikogbo, Oba Nurudeen Osoja, wherein the Oba was alleging threat to life, malicious damage, armed robbery and cultism against some individuals in the community.
He disclosed that a team of detectives handling the petition was in Ikogbo on Wednesday to arrest four of the suspects accused by the Oba.
“Following the arrest, some youths suspected to be cultists led by someone identified as Fiasco, mobilised and attacked the policemen and police station at about 3:30pm, shooting indiscriminately.
“They vandalized the station and Fiasco himself snatched and took away one AK 47 without a magazine from one Inspector at the station after much struggle,” he disclosed.
While saying normalcy had been restored, Oyeyemi stated that four suspects have been arrested as of Thursday.
Two victims reportedly died as they were hit by stray bullets when some suspected land grabbers were allegedly dragging a gun with a Policeman in Ikogbo, a community in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.
