OGHA SCREENS COMMISSIONS' NOMINEES, LAUDS GOV. ABIODUN ON EVEN REPRESENTATIONS, OTHERS
Ogun State House of Assembly today screened all the nominees for the statutory Commissions including the State Civil Service, House of Assembly Service, Local Government Service and Teaching Service Commissions, as well as the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) whose list was forwarded to it by the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, expressing satisfaction on the quality of the nominees and the composition of the Commissions and Board.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, who presided over the screening at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta lauded the Governor's ingenuity and sense of foresight to have nominated a crop of former lawmakers, public servants, seasoned administrators and professionals, who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields of accomplishments into various positions in the Statutory Commissions and Board.
This according to the Speaker would enable them bring to the fore, their expertise in turning around the fortunes of the Commissions and Board for improved performance, if confirmed and sworn-in by the Governor.
Describing the extension of the membership of SUBEB to ten members as a novel idea to ensure strategic representation and expertise, the Speaker sought the need for the nominees of the State Civil Service to address the challenges facing the service to further reposition it for improved service delivery.
He enjoined nominees for the Local Government Service Commission to reinvigorate the councils, by ensuring continuous human capacity for the workers with new idea and values towards upholding the ethics and good conduct in the delivery of good governance to the grassroots through professionalism, while those to take charge of the House of Assembly Service Commission were tasked to put strategies in place towards ensuring the development of the legislative arm of government to further aid democratic practice.
While screening the nominees for the State Universal Basic Education Board, Oluomo implored them to ensure that process of contract awards for SUBEB projects remain thorough, with effective monitoring and strict compliance at ensuring transparency and accountability for government resources to add value to the developmental projects of the present administration, especially in the area of basic education.
The Speaker added that the screening became imperative to ensure that all the nominees were of proven integrity and their composition were in line with the principles of Federal Character, while allowing for fair representations of all parts of the State in the appointments into the public offices in the State.
Other lawmakers in their respective submissions tasked the nominees to upon their confirmation and swearing in, promote service delivery in the discharge of their duties, while sustaining the existing synergy between the executive and legislative arms through robust relationships to ensure even spread of developmental projects across the State.
Speaking on behalf of the nominees, the Chairmen designate for the statutory Commissions including the Civil Service Commission, Engr. Tokunbo Odebunmi, his Local Government Service counterpart, Barr. Bukola Onabanjo, SUBEB, Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, House of Assembly Service, Hon. Waliu Taiwo and TESCOM, Evang Joshua Ifede, assured the lawmakers that they would raise the bar of performance by bringing their wealth of experience to bear in all their various Commissions.
