OGUN SPECIAL CONSTABULARY POLICE MEETS SSA SECURITY OVER WELFARE, COMMEND GOVERNOR DAPO
Ogun State personnels of the Special Constabulary Police have met with the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, AIG Sola Subir (Rtd) on Friday in Abeokuta to express issues bothering them over their welfare.
The Officers who came from the 20 Local Government areas of the State on a scheduled visit, commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his good security service delivery in the recent launching of joint security task force "OP MESA" which in response to the current security threats such as ritual killings, child theft, cyber crimes, kidnapping and other related challenges while lauding the State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Sikiru Bankole for being proactive.
Kunle Sodipo who led the SCP officers expressed concerns over none payment of salary neither stipends since December 2020 after passing out from the Police Training School, Iperu Ogun State. He also stressed on the need of membership Identification card, Sensitization and Acceptability of SCPs at Various Formations. He sited Edo, Lagos, Kano and the FCT as states enjoying Salary /Stipends by their respective State Governments to boost the morale of the community based Police Officers, whose major role is providing native intelligence not withstanding the differences in revenue status.
In his response, AIG Sola Subir Rtd. thanked the SCPs for recognizing the good works of His Excellency, Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun MFR and promised to visit his Office to call his attention to the challenges being faced by the Special Constables across the State. He explained what led to the idea of Special Constabulary Police and how the Federal Government and State Governors agreed to fund it after several meetings with subsequent release of #13.3bn which was widely mentioned on both print and electronic national news platforms.
While thanking the Officers and charging them to continue laundering the image of the Police regardless of their welfare condition, the SSA made it clear that the State Government is not aware of the welfare challenge because they had thought that the Federal Government have been doing the needful, but promised to work on the challenges as mentioned and revert back as soon as possible.
