Ikenne Community Protests Death Threat To Defence Lawyer, Denial Of Son's Enthronement Right

A group of protestors numbering about 120, stormed the Police Zonal headquarters Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos, on Monday to protest death threat to, Barrister Olumide Sofowora, SAN, their defence lawyer who's battling the right to the enthronement of Ademola Yomi Odeneye as the Alakenne of Ikenne Remo, Ogun State.

According to the protesters, since the demise of the previous Alakene Adedoyin Gilbert Awomuti in 1984, the need to replace him became inevitatable, requiring a painstaking process of choosing the right person from a royal family, leading to the choice of Ademola Yomi Odeneye who was selected and Elected February 2018 from amongst 15,then 7 'Omo Oyes screened to ', contending for the throne.

Ademola Yomi Odeneye, the Oba elect, explained that his selection was carried out by the statutory Osugbo society have powers to choose an Oba for the throne after  several traditional rites and in line with the Ikenne Chieftaincy Declaration act of 1985 by Governor Ewang; arrived at my choice as the new Alakenne of Ikenne Remo, the Oba elect.

Odeneye explained further that Folarin Amoroge, the head of Osugbo is about 97 years today and still alive to corroborate the process leading to my emergence as the Oba elect of Ikenne Remo.

He however said, it came as a surprise that since his selection and Election through a clean and clear process, one Moshoodi Adeyinka Onakade, went about laying claim to the throne since 2011 and was supported by certain personalities in the Town in total disregard to the established norms and traditional rites.

The town and its people decided not to take laws into their hands and approached the court to restrain Onakade and his collaborators from parading himself as the Oba elect.

Since the Court proceedings began it became clear to everyone that we will have a favourable judgement, our defence lawyer Barrister Olumide Sofowora SAN  began to receive death threats from the other camp.

"We are therefore using this protest to call on the Ogun State government, the general public and well meaning citizens of Ikenne to come to our aid by allowing our tradition to prevail and prevent the curse of the gods upon the Town, its people and businesses."
