D.G NBC ON A COURTESY VISIT TO THE NATIONAL BOARD FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION
Director General, Mall. Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, was on Tuesday 2nd August, 2022, at the Abuja Liaison Office of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), with members of the Commission’s Management on a courtesy visit.The visit, according to the DG, was to discuss the propositions of the Commission with regards to the accreditation of institutions offering broadcast related- courses, such as Mass Communication and Multimedia Technology, It's plan to establish a Training Institute which will offer hands-on training on broadcast- related fields, as well as, seek collaboration with NBTE to approve for the NBC to undertake the project.
Mall. Ilelah added that the NBC intends to critically appraise the curricula and accredit broadcasting courses at the Nigerian Polytechnics and other Diploma awarding institutions offering Mass Communication or Multimedia Technology as empowered by section 2(1)(p) of the NBC Act CAP N11 LFN 2004.
He further noted that the training institute, when established, will be called the Nigeria Broadcast Institute (NBI), with a view to run short courses for broadcasters on the ethical and regulatory aspects of broadcasting and issue certificates of attendance to participants.
Responding, the Executive Secretary, NBTE, Prof. Idris Muhammad Bugaje, congratulated the NBC on its plan to establish a Broadcast Institute.
He noted that it is germane to regulate the broadcast industry, as well as, give proper training to prospective applicants.
Prof. Bugaje added that NBTE will partner with NBC in the development of the Broadcast institute.
He called on the Management of the National Broadcasting Commission to ensure that the broadcast Institute include skills in its programmes because, skills according to the Executive Secretary, is the next gold mine for Nigeria and the broadcast industry.
In conclusion,, Prof. Idris Bugaje, informed the DG and his team that an MOU will be signed between the two agencies to further their interests.
