HON SHERIFF EMPOWERS OTA LEGISLATORS AND MANAGEMENT STAFFS, ORGANIZE LEADERSHIP TRAINING IN COLLABORATION WITH COVENANT UNIVERSITY

Ado-Odo Ota Local Government is nationally known as one of the most industrialised Local Government located in Ogun West Geopolitical zone of the State with wide economy due to its boundary with Lagos State hence the need of good administration for development and economic growth. 

The current Executive Chairman, Hon. Sheriff Adewale Musa has made a landmark by collaborating with Covenant University, Ota on a 3Day Leadership Executive Training for his teaming cabinet, the legislators and top management staff of the local government to sustainable growth.
The training kick started on Tuesday August 16, 2022 with formal introduction of the members of the local government top management staff, Acting Head of Local Government Administration / Director of Works Engr Osiyele, Director of General Service and Administration Prince Dada and others.
The vice chancellor of Covenant University Professor Adebayo Abiodun was ably represented by Prof. Osinbanjo , Director, office of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Ajanaku, Director of CUCRID - Covenant University Centre for Research, Innovation and Discovery and  Dr. Tayo George, Chairman, Covenant University Community Development Impact Initiative Committee are also in attendance.
The epoch event did not leave out the leader of the Legislative arm of the local government Hon. Bukola Balogun and other councilors, the immediate past chairman and Governor Liaison officer to the local government Hon Wasiu Adewale Lawal and the representative of the chairman of local government service commission Mr. Adegbenro Ibrahim who commended on Ado-Odo/Local Government Executive Chairman and his team for the laudable training organized at the right time for the leadership of the council and used the opportunity to call on other local government in Ogun State to emulate same.
Dr. Tayo George, the chairman of CU- CDIIC in her statement before the commencement of the official training appreciate the chairman, Hon Sheriff Musa for the initiative and promise to support the local government whenever need arise. She mentioned that the University has been supportive to the local government in the area of developmental projects such as Installation of Borehole for clean water at Oja Ota, organizing and partnering the local government on World Cancer day and World Malaria day with free test and counseling. She also reinstate that the University will keep doing more.
Professor Tayo Osinbanjo also delivered the Vice Chancellor messages. He stated that Capacity Building is one of the Core Values of the university and it gladden their heart to see the local government chairman championing the same cause. According to the Vice Chancellor messages being delivered by Osibanjo, local governments are created for the purpose of bringing government closer to the people and their roles are critical to the economy development of the country. He emphasized that local government need greater freedom to tackle all local challenges. He therefore call on all the public office holders and career officers who are in attendance to see the training as a better opportunity to influence better changes in local government administration.
Hon. Sheriff Musa, Executive Chairman of Ad-Odo/Ota Local Government in his opening remarks thanks the management of Covenant University especially Pastor David Oyedepo, Professor Adebayo Abiodun, Dr. Tayo George, Professor Kolawole Ajanaku, the leader of the legislative arm, Hon. Bukola Balogun, Vice Chairman, Secretary to the local government Hon. Abiodun Oweyan, Acting HOLGA Engr Osiyale, DGSA, Directors, S.As, Head of Departments, Hon. Wasiu Lawal and others for believing in his leadership and support him to make the program a reality. Hon. Sheriff emphasized that the world is dynamic and every leaders need to go along with the changes and that was one of the reasons he decided to engaged all leaders in the local government in executive leadership training for effective local government administration.
Mr Yomi Oke, the media aide to the chairman who anchored the program eulogies the consulting firm who was saddled with the responsibility of handling the training, Thembuk Communications, for their preparation to take the leaders through the 3days Executive Leadership Training.
The CEO of Phembuk Communications, Mr Femi Bolaji , a season public speaker, a coach and president of Nigeria Speakers Connect started the training with a topic “Workplace Leadership Skill For Public Holders. The training was highly interactive with a mind blowing exercise with all the participants by testing their leadership capabilities through questions and answers session. Femi made it known that leadership is not synonymous with title, it is set skills, processes, behaviors and capabilities that a person need to motivate and direct others. He also treated various types of leadership such as Effective leadership and Successful leadership noting that the word leader simplify as an acronym, stating as L- Listen, E- Evaluate, A- Assist, D- Discuss, E- Empathize, and R- Respond.
The training also covers the area of learning process and according to Mr Femi, a good leader must be creative, Assertive, Objective, An Orator, Friendly, Good Listener, Spots Errors, Organized, Sympathetic and Sociable.

The training will end on Thursday, August 18, 2022 and Hon. Sheriff has called on all participants to take the training serious. He assured the participants that the facilitators have lines of activities that will help them in their day to day activities which will aid their improvements.

Professor Kolawole Ajanaku in his closing remark stated that the participants are lucky to have been in Covenant University, a place of wisdom and ideas. He urged the trainees to see the advantages in the exercise and apply it to better Ado-Odo/Ota local government.
