Senator Salisu Mourns Death of Oba Saburee Bakre
The Senator for Ogun Central Senatorial District, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has expressed his condolences to the Bakre royal family of Gbagura Kingdom, the people of Gbagura, Egbaland, and the Ogun state government over the passing of Kabiyesi, Oba Babajide Bakre, the 9th Agura of Gbaguraland who joined his ancestors on Wednesday, June 14th, 2023.The monarch died at the age of 64.
In a statement released by his media office, the Senator described the passing of Kabiyesi Oba Babajide Bakre as a significant loss to Gbagura Kingdom, Egbaland, Ogun state, and Nigeria as a whole. He acknowledged that the former customs officer was an enigma whose legacies will endure, as he had engraved his name in gold during his short but impactful four-year reign as the Agura of Gbagura Kingdom.
The statement reads, "Kabiyesi's contributions to the unity of the state are immeasurable. His wisdom, guidance, and dedication have left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of the people in Ogun Central Senatorial District. I am well aware that Kabiyesi played a pivotal role in fostering unity, respect, and harmony among all the kingdoms in Egbaland, transcending boundaries to other parts of the state and promoting a shared sense of belonging for everyone. It is with a heavy heart that I say Gbagura has lost a father, Egbaland has lost one of its respected sons, and the Ogun State Traditional Council has lost a rare gem."
Senator Salisu also extends his sympathies to the Egba Traditional Council, under the leadership of Kabiyesi, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, over the passing of the monarch. He urges the council to find solace in the memories and positive influence that Oba Babajide Bakre had on the development and unity of Egbaland.
Salisu prays that all sons and daughters of Gbagura Kingdom, Egbaland, and Ogun state find
solace in the memories of Kabiyesi, Oba Babajide Bakre, and that his remarkable contributions to the unity of the state be forever remembered and cherished, he concluded.
