SPECIAL TASK FORCE EVACUATES IMPEDIMENTS TO TRAFFIC FLOW

A Special Task Force Team has commenced the removal of objects, capable of obstructing the free flow of human and vehicular movements along walkways and roundabouts within Abeokuta metropolis.

The Taskforce Team, comprising, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), SO SAFE Corps, Ogun State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, and Environmental Marshals from the Ministry of Environment, began the evacuation exercise from Olomoore roundabout, where all illegal stalls, tables, and objects, inhibiting the free flow of traffic were removed.

The exercise also extended to Kuto under-bridge, as well as the Isabo axis where all impediments that could endanger the lives of unsuspecting road users were removed from the road and walkways.

He added that “Items such as bad tyres, benches, jerry cans, tables, bad wheel rims, torn umbrellas, chairs, and other objects, narrowing the road capacity were evacuated to ensure seamless traffic flow along the route”.

It would be recalled that two weeks ago, members of the Special Task Force Team embarked upon enlightenment and sensitization drive to media stations, major markets, junctions, and roundabouts within Abeokuta metropolis to educate road users, as well as market men and women, on the need to avoid the display of wares and products on the road, in view of its attendant consequences.

Speaking on the reason the exercise was carried out, the TRACE team leader, Area Commander, Operations and General Services, Cdr. Teslim Adedeji said the government took the decision to avert the unwholesome practices caused by obstructing the free flow of human and vehicular movements, which exposes the lives of road users to danger, particularly in case of incidence like break failure.

Cdr. Adedeji charged all market men and women in the state to desist from displaying wares and items on the road, warning that the long arm of the law would soon catch up with defaulters, as the Task Force Team would extend its tentacles to other areas in the state, where such act thrives.
