ADO-ODO OTA CHAIRMAN MAPS OUT PLANS TO CURB MOTORCYCLE RIDERS’ EXCESSES

Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Chairman, Engr. Sheriff Musa said the council has sought the support of security agencies to curb unwholesome activities of commercial motorcycle riders, popularly called ‘Okada’ operators in the Igbesa community.

Engr. Musa revealed this at the council secretariat in Ota, while receiving a delegation from Igbesa Community Forum, led by a former Chairman of the council, Dr. Bankole Sewanu, noted that influx of commercial riders remained a major concern to the local government, assuring that necessary security and administrative measures would be taken through the state and local security outfits to ensure security of lives and property at all times.

The council boss added that his administration had resolved to get registered uniforms for all commercial motorcyclists in the council area, as a means of identification, informing them of the decision to set up a task force to instill compliance and apprehend offenders who fail to abide with rules guiding their operations, among others.

Earlier, Dr. Sewanu said it was imperative for the Forum, which comprised stakeholders in the community such as, traditional rulers, religious leaders, market leaders, representatives of Commercial Motorcycle Riders Association, Student Union and others, to work together with the council, towards finding lasting solution to security threat in the community.

He decried the inhuman treatment of students of Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa and the host community by many unidentified commercial motorcycle riders, warning that such action would not be tolerated.

Also speaking, the Chairman Amalgamated Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria, Igbesa Chapter, Comrade Olamilekan Adeyemi, promised to cooperate and support the association with developmental initiatives, to curb all atrocities associated with his members.

In their contributions, Mr. Rauf Dauda and Seyi Idowu, who spoke on behalf of ‘Okada’ riders in the area, appreciated the council for its efforts and promised their members’ cooperation to nip the menace in the bud
