One-Chance Criminal Arrested By Lagos CP Crack Squad
Moses Haruna, a 29 year old Kaduna state indigene, who claimed to be a painter was arrested on Saturday night in Gbagada area of Lagos State by men of the newly created CP Crack Squad after a tip off from passer bys who alerted them of an on-going attack on some motorists on the high way, before a team was immediately dispatched to the scene.An eye witness account by the Daily Independent Correspondent who was on a commercial bus just arriving the scene, saw one of the robbers running away with some of the police on a hot pursuit, but Moses was not so lucky and was apprehended.
The Daily Independent Correspondent Disembarked from his bus to introduce himself to the officers and some people who were at the scene and he gathered that the robbers are always at that axis to load passengers into one-chance buses, create artificial diversions on the road and waiting for vehicles that breaks down on the road to rob the occupants.
On this particular night, a Mercedes SUV abruptly stopped after his fuel got exhausted and the second occupier quickly came down to get a fuel container at the boot of the vehicle and to rush-off to buy fuel from a nearby filling station, after he left, the robbers approached the driver demanding that he settle them.
They threatened to kill him and he quickly parted with N20,000, afterwards they seized the container containing petrol from the second passenger when he arrived and made more demands, before passer-bys who suspected what was going on alerted the squad whose command office was not too far away from the scene, quickly came to the rescue.
