Lagos CP Crack Squad Bust Human Trafficking Syndicate, Rescue 10 Victims
The Lagos State Police Command’s CP Crack Squad has dismantled a human trafficking syndicate operating under the pretense of traveling outside the shore of Nigeria and offering employment opportunities in some West Africa Countries.
CP Crack Squad was created newly by CP Fayoade Adegoke and headship by CSP Uba Adams to carry out tactical assignment with intelligent reports, stop and search operations, identifying and going after ‘one chance’ robbers, kidnapping, Cultism and other violent emerging criminal activities in the State, with the aim to also improve the security architecture and ensuring the safety of lives and properties of residents.
According to Lagos Command Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin who confirmed this during the press briefing with newsmen on the success of the operation, TMnews report.
Hundeyin said that the CP crack squad of the command got intelligence report that a syndicate, who specialised in trafficking underaged girls, were planning to move some girls out.
He said that the police operatives intercepted the suspects at the point of departure at Mazamaza area of Mile 2 – Badagry Expressway and 10 teenage girls were rescued and two suspects named Chike Aniegbunam, 52, and Donald Oviokote, 55, were apprehended
Humdeyin further said that the families of the girls had been contacted, adding that they would be reunited with their families as soon as the squad complete their investigation.
CP Fayoade Adegoke has instructed the unit to intensifies effort to arrest others suspects and charged those in their custody to court.
On interrogating the suspects, both of them admitted to the crime, pleaded for mercy and promised not to do such again.
Chike Aniegbunam, one of the suspects said he has been on the business for over two years without knowing or meet the lady who gave him the assignment, he is only to do the supply of the girls and see them to the bus terminal while someone else will take the delivery at the other end.
Some of the girls, who spoke to newsmen during the briefing, said they were promised lucrative jobs in some West African countries.
Another suspect named Donald Oviokote claimed to be an international driver, said a Ghana-based Nigerian woman requested that he should bring two girls for her and he has transacted more than four deals with the female trafficker who operated a restaurant in Ghana.
He also admitted that some of the girls were being used for prostitution.
Donald claimed that the immigration officials from both Nigeria and Benin Republic assist them by collecting up to 1000CFA at Benin Republic border while one thousand Naira to Nigerian Immigration in most cases to have access to the water way route.
