LANDLORD CALLS OGUN CP, IGP TO INTERVENE OVER N7.6M SCAM BY NAGAFF CHAIR

By OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos

Mr. Eneje Emmanuel, a Landlord and Businessman resident in Idi-Iroko area of Ogun State, has called on CP. Abiodun Alamutu the Ogun State Commissioner of Police and IGP. Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police to intervene in a case of dubious extortion, conspiracy and stealing of his N7.560 million by one Uche Nwabude, his tenant, which he reported at the Ogun State Police Headquarters Eleweran, Abeokuta, Ogun State on February 5, 2024.
According to Emmanuel, Uche Nwabude his tenant who was then the Branch Chairman of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, NAGAFF at Idi-Iroko border, spoke to him about the close working relationship between his Association (NAGAFF) and the Nigeria Custom formation, revealing that the Government Agency gives the association special privileges in getting access for buying impounded vehicles, rice and other commodities.

Mr. Emmanuel is making the plea in view of his suspicion that the Policemen in charge of the case at the Ogun State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta may have compromised in bringing the suspect to book, calling on the Inspector General of Police and the Ogun State Commissioner of Police to kindly intervene to facilitate the arrest of Nwabude, stressing that he used his building to obtain a loan which he gave to the suspect and he is at the verge of losing all he has worked for in life, except the Police authorities intervene.

He said, “My tenant Uche Nwabude, who was then the Branch Chairman of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, NAGAFF at Idi-Iroko, informed me of how Mr. Bamidele Makinde Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command Idiroko, have being given their Association special privileges of buying several impounded items from the Custom Services, including Vehicles, Rice and other items at very cheap prices which they in-turn sell to make huge profits.

“Earlier, after renting my apartment he took me to Apapa to meet Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, who is their National President, introducing me to as his Landlord and Dr. Aniebonam asked me to accord him all the necessary cooperation as their man at the Idi-Iroko border town. After this visit, Nwabude told me about Comptroller Makinde’s intention as usual to allot some bags of rice to the Association from the Custom warehouse for resale as they wish.

“Nwabude asked if I will be interested which and I declared in the affirmative, but before he came up with the costs of the rice, he spoke about the allotment of vehicles too of 2016-2017 production models, asking if I would  buy and I said yes, to which I also enquire if can partake of as an outsider and he assured me that it will be enough, promising to facilitate it for me to get out of the vehicles.” Emmanuel Narrated.

Adding, “Afterwards he sent me a forwarded Whatsap message purportedly from Comptroller Makinde, promising stakeholders to give them vehicles and bags of rice to which I indicated my interest in reply. He said the cost of each of the vehicle is N1.2 million and I had to give him N3.6 million. He initially sent me the association account number but after three days changed it to his personal account number where I paid in the money. At a point, he came back to tell me the cost of each vehicle has changed from N1.2 million to N1.5 million and I called him to further verify the genuineness of the transaction which he assured me, claiming that Comptroller Makinde will prepare the documents from Abuja to be handed to me.

“After two months of waiting, I got worried; he now came up with the idea of buying the rice while awaiting the vehicles, I then paid for200 bags at the rate of N12, 600 to N13, 000 for each, from then on I noticed his change of attitude, before long, I heard several other people complaining that the man is also owing them on accounts of such frivolous purchases.

“It was then I called Dr, Aniebonam to complain and explain all that transpired between us, but he denied him asking me to sort myself with him, immediately after I took the case to the Ogun State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, where I wrote a petition through a Superintendent of Police at the Legal Department, who took my petition to the Commissioner of Police and was signed, and the SP promised to go to his bank to block Nwabude’s Bank accounts, i told the police to also track his mobile number, but was delayed for several months owing to Court delays I was told.” He lamented.

"On a faithful day, a man called me that Mr Uche Nwabude said he observed I'm making effort to block his Bank Account and that he is ready to negotiate with me, the caller claimed there was a room and parlour built on a piece of land somewhere belonging to Nwabude that I can claim in lieu of the money, that development got me worried, leaving me with the thought of how did he get to know what the police was doing or could his bank alert him on the Police,s effort to arrest him, I'm confused" he stressed.

DAILY INDEPENDENT gathered from a Police source that Mr. Eneje Emmanuel ought to follow on the matter by visiting the Police headquarters regularly to liaise with the IPO of the case rather remaining at Idi-Iroko to make phone calls and on his visit to Eleweran he can further lodge any complaint he may be having with the Deputy Commissioner of Police on Crime.

On his part, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, said that if Uche Nwabude has committed any offence, he should be made to face the charges, stressing that the Association is not a private Company that make binding commands on employees, but it is an NGO with each member running their businesses and can be arrested to face charges of their misdemeanor.
