Olota Task NUJ Members On Credible Reporting, Gives Land to build Secretariat in Ota

The Chairman of Awori Obas in Ogun State, His Imperial Majesty, Kabiyesi (Oba) Prof Kabiru Adeyemi Obalanlege on Monday advised journalists to be factual in their reporting and give credibity to online journalism by verifying stories before publication, TMnews can report.
Oba Lanlege gave the advice during a courtesy visit of members of NUJ Independent Online Chapel, Ota, led by the Chairman, Comrade Kayode Taiwo at Olota Palace.

The Kabiyesi who announced the gift of a plot of land to NUJ Independent Online Chapel, Ota, on Itele Road, for building of its secretariat, also promised to facilitate frequent training of journalists as professionals.

According to the royal father, reckless abandonment of objectivity and credibility manifested in some online reporting, has necessitated a need for NUJ national body to consider creation of use of Stamp and Seal, with identification number of every journalist to differentiate between fake and genuine journalists, just as it is done in other professional bodies, like NBA.

"Being a practising journalist I can't afford to engage in any act capable of dragging the profession in the mud, so must every journalist. As the Fourth Estate of the Realm, we should be bold enough to hold government accountable on its duty to the governed.

"Be careful and ensure you balance your stories in strict adherence to the tenets of your professional calling.

"Being a journalist myself, and lecturer both at home and overseas, I'm very at home working with you. I remember the newsroom life. Everybody is the same. Journalism is a small world. We have to be our brothers' keepers", he said.

In response, the NUJ Independent Online Chapel, Comrade Kayode Taiwo and the Chapel Secretary, Comrade Temidayo Babalola thanked the Kabiyesi for his advice and generous gift of the plot of land, while also appreciating his lecture on importance of training, and promise his members would hold it as gospel truth.

Comrade Taiwo further noted that the association had wanted to embark on courtesy visit to corporate organizations since its formal recognition by the Ogun State NUJ Chapter, but thought it wise to begin from the Kabiyesi to receive royal blessing.
