Ogun I Customs Strengthens Border Security, Hands Over Seized Cannabis to NDLEA

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, Idiroko, has reinforced its commitment to combating smuggling and securing Nigeria’s borders.
Customs Area Controller (CAC) Comptroller Mohammed Shuaibu disclosed this at a press briefing in Idiroko on Wednesday, 29 January 2025, noting that the command in 2024 recorded an unprecedented N1.2 trillion in seized goods.

He stated that through intelligence-driven operations, the command intercepted 940 live rounds of ammunition;
71 sacks and 3,253 parcels of cannabis sativa;
139,881 litres of PMS;
16,712 (50kg) bags of foreign parboiled rice;
586 bales of used clothing;
86 vehicles used for smuggling and 18 foreign used vehicles;
2,150 used pneumatic tyres;
760 donkey skins;
3,766 cartons of frozen poultry products; and
85 bags of imported flour.
These seizures' total Duty Paid Value (DPV) amounted to N1,267,504,035.

Comptroller Shuaibu described the command’s 2024 achievements as a testament to officers' dedication to combating smuggling, protecting the economy, and ensuring public safety.

 According to Shaibu, between 1 and 27 January 2025, the command further seized 6,180 cutlasses;
6,375 litres of PMS; and
2,002 (50kg) bags of smuggled rice.
These recent seizures were valued at N77,476,185.

The command generated N275,835,406 in revenue from baggage assessments, proceeds from PMS auctions, and vehicle sales. Comptroller Shuaibu reaffirmed the NCS’s commitment to fostering national prosperity, facilitating legitimate trade, and boosting revenue for development.

As part of its cooperation with other security agencies, the command handed over the seized cannabis sativa to the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Command.

"This handover reflects our commitment to strengthening partnerships to combat drug trafficking and ensure a safer society," Shuaibu stated.

In a separate event, Comptroller Shuaibu decorated newly promoted officers, urging them to uphold integrity and dedication.

"Your new rank is not just a symbol of authority but a call to serve Nigeria with integrity, courage, and selflessness," he concluded.
