Fatal Head-On Collision in Ogun Leaves One Dead, Six Injured

The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into a fatal road accident that claimed one life and injured six others near Ajobo village along the Abeokuta-Ibadan Road.

The crash, which occurred around 2:30 pm on Tuesday, involved a Lexus ES 350, driven by 26-year-old Abiodun Michael of Isolu, FUNAAB Road, Abeokuta, and an Opel Zafira 1.8 Space Wagon, driven by 55-year-old Popoola Ishola Kayode of Odeda, who died at the scene.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Wednesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, said eyewitnesses blamed the accident on reckless driving by Michael, who was heading towards Abeokuta.

“While navigating a sharp bend, the Lexus driver failed to slow down, lost control, and veered into the opposite lane, crashing head-on into the Zafira’s driver’s side,” the statement read.

Kayode died on the spot, while six passengers sustained varying injuries.

Upon receiving the report, officers from the Odeda Division were deployed to rescue the victims and secure the accident scene.

Odutola further revealed that the injured victims were taken to Odeda General Hospital for immediate treatment, with those suffering fractures later transferred to FMC Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, for specialized care.

She added that Michael and other occupants of the Lexus fled the scene after the crash. Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the driver.

The police urged anyone with information on Michael’s whereabouts to come forward, reaffirming their commitment to enforcing road safety laws and ensuring reckless drivers face justice.
