IGP Warns Officers Against Case Transfers, Involvement in Land Disputes
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has cautioned officers against the indiscriminate transfer of case files and the misuse of public office, describing such actions as unethical and unacceptable.
In a statement issued Tuesday by Force PRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP emphasized that such practices undermine investigations and erode public confidence in the police. He warned that any officer found guilty of these offenses will face strict disciplinary measures.
Egbetokun reaffirmed that transparency, professionalism, and accountability must guide police operations, directing all investigative units to handle cases with integrity and diligence.
On land disputes, he reminded officers that the police have no jurisdiction over civil matters, except where a criminal element is involved. In such cases, investigations must be supervised by State Commissioners of Police, who will be held accountable for the process and outcomes.
The IGP also introduced new measures to curb frivolous and malicious petitions, stating that all petitions must now include a declaration of authenticity. Petitioners found guilty of false claims will face sanctions for misleading the police.
