Transforming Africa’s Future: AU Agenda 2063 Digital Women's Day Celebration Inspires Change

On March 8, 2025, the AU Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly Women & Gender Committee celebrated International Women’s Day with a transformative digital event that united Africa’s foremost leaders in business, politics, and innovation. Spearheaded by Amb. Dr. Fatoumatta Gaye, the virtual gathering set a powerful tone for the day by showcasing dynamic voices committed to advancing gender equality and driving socioeconomic progress across the continent. This landmark event not only highlighted the achievements of African women but also paved the way for a future where collaborative leadership and empowerment are at the forefront of Africa’s development agenda.
 
The event was convened by Amb. Dr. Fatoumatta Gaye, a Gambian-born business consultant, senior investment advisor, and entrepreneur, whose commitment to women’s empowerment has been at the forefront of her career. As the CEO of Top3 Solutions and Vice Chairperson for Women & Gender at the AU Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly, Dr. Gaye’s leadership played a crucial role in organizing this impactful gathering.   
 
Guiding the event were two accomplished professionals who brought expertise and insight to the discussions:   
 
- Amb. Sandra Nworah, FICRPC  -Chairperson of the Media & Communication Committee at the AU Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly, certified expert in peace and crisis resolution, and Founder of Santissima International Schools, Kaduna. - Efe Ose - A seasoned Strategy and Operations expert with over 20 years of experience, who has empowered over 2,000 African entrepreneurs and currently leads digital transformation at OARS Consulting and EO Media and Design studio.
 
Inspiring Speakers Deliver Transformative Insights
 
The event featured a distinguished lineup of speakers who shared invaluable insights on key aspects of women’s empowerment:   
 
- Dr. Stephen Gbatigbi Ben-Joel, Head of Missions, delivered the opening remarks, setting the stage for an enlightening session.   
 
- Amb. Dr. Shirley Nkechinyere Hills spoke on“Building Strong Networks – The Power of Collaboration among Women,” emphasizing the need for mentorship and strategic partnerships.
   
- Dr. Alberto Flores Hernández explored“The Role of Men in Advancing Women’s Empowerment,”highlighting the importance of male allies in gender equality efforts.   
 
- Dr. Sa’adatu Adamu addressed“Health and Wellness - Prioritizing Women’s Wellbeing,” sharing strategies for enhancing mental and physical health.   
 
- Amb. Dr. Onajobi Adetoun emphasized “Empowering Women through Skills Development and Capacity Building,”advocating for continuous learning.   
 
- Amb. Elizabeth Emeka-Onwuchekwa tackled “Breaking Barriers - Women in Business and Leadership,”offering strategies for overcoming obstacles in the corporate world.   
 
- Mr. Olufemi Boyede discussed “Building Inclusive Economies - The Impact of Women in Business and Leadership,”stressing the role of women in economic development.  
 
- Amb. Dr. Elizabeth Kings-Wali provided expert insights on“Unlocking Capital: Investment Strategies for Women Entrepreneurs,”equipping women with financial knowledge.   
 
- Mr. Sanmi Oladunni highlighted“Leveraging Technology and Innovation for Women’s Empowerment,”demonstrating how digital tools can advance women’s initiatives.   
 
- Mr. S.T. Kuti-George concluded with“Championing Women’s Success - The Role of Male Allies in Building Leadership,”reinforcing the necessity of male support in women’s leadership journeys.   
 
Looking Ahead: Women’s Empowerment Event in Lagos on March 29, 2025
 
Building on the momentum of this transformative digital gathering, the AU Women & Gender Committee has announced an in-person empowerment event set to take place on March 29, 2025, in Lagos, Nigeria. The initiative aims to directly impact 300 women, including market traders, street vendors, and small-scale entrepreneurs, by providing:   
 
- Entrepreneurial training and skill development   
- Financial literacy sessions   
- Free health screenings, including cancer checks   
- Business startup support   
 
This initiative goes beyond a single event - it is a movement dedicated to equipping African women with the resources they need to thrive in business, leadership, and society.   
This International Women’s Day event marks another step toward achieving the African Union’s Agenda 2063 - a vision of an inclusive, prosperous, and gender-equal Africa.
